The client had given the go-ahead to Cat’s Eyes and Shark so it was now down to me to find a photographer to shoot them. The 'abstract cut' ads had been shot by a classic advertising photographer but I wondered if there might be someone out there who might look at it a bit differently. I remember Paul coming in and asking me who I was going to use and when I said Barry Lategan he just stared at me (like he used to) for what seemed forever. Then he spun round and marched out of my office calling out ‘Inspired, inspired’ as he disappeared down the corridor. I was thrilled - and relieved... Barry rented Barney Edwards’ studio at the Putney end of the New Kings Road and we managed to get both done within a week. We were all amazed how tricky the purple silk was to arrange and control. Even the best of times come to an end and I had been at Saatchi's for ten years. It was time to move on.
